Swim Lessons
Nomahegan is an authorized provider of the American Red Cross (ARC) Learn To Swim program.
Preschool Aquatics Level 1 (Beginner 1)
Beginners / No Experience Required
Must be at least 3 years of age and fully potty trained.
This class is designed to introduce preschoolers to the aquatic environment and help them develop basic water skills in a fun, safe setting. Students will work on essential skills such as kicking while holding the wall, submerging their heads, retrieving submerged objects, floating on their backs, and practicing arm circles. Perfect for building confidence and comfort in the water!
Preschool Aquatics Level 2 (Beginner 2)
Must be at least 3 years of age and fully potty trained.
Must be comfortable fully submerging in the water while blowing bubbles.
This class is for children who are already comfortable fully submerging their face/head in the water. Building on the skills learned in Preschool Level 1, participants will begin developing the fundamentals of swimming, using coordinated arm and leg movements. Students will also be introduced to basic treading water techniques, continuing to build water confidence and independence.
Stroke Development (Intermediate)
Participants must be at least 5 years of age
Must be able to swim independently (doggie paddle / underwater)
This class helps prepare swimmers for the deep water swim test and builds the foundation for more advanced swim levels. Introducing and refining freestyle techniques and the fundamentals of backstroke, students will begin practicing independent swimming in deep water and continue developing proper treading water skills.
Stroke Improvement (Intermediate)
Must have passed the deep water swim test
Can comfortably swim one length of an Olympic-size pool without stopping
Demonstrates proper freestyle technique
Understands and can perform basic backstroke
This class focuses on building swimming endurance and improving overall technique. Students will continue refining freestyle and backstroke while being introduced to the foundational skills for breaststroke and butterfly. Emphasis is placed on proper form and breathing techniques to support longer, more efficient swimming.
Stroke Refinement (Advanced)
Must be able to comfortably swim at least 2 full laps in the Olympic pool without stopping while demonstrating proper freestyle technique.
This class is designed for swimmers who can confidently demonstrate proper freestyle and backstroke technique. Focus areas include developing breaststroke and butterfly, introducing flip turns and diving starts, and building overall swimming endurance in preparation for more advanced training or competitive swimming.
Swimming & Skill Proficiency (Swim team / Competitive swimmer)
Must be part of a recreational swim programMust be able to swim at least 4 laps freestyle without stopping using proper technique
Must be able to perform at least one lap of backstroke, breaststroke & butterfly.
This advanced class is designed for swimmers of any age who are preparing for competitive swim events. Focus is placed on perfecting technique in all four competitive strokes—freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Students will also work on improving their starts, flip turns, and overall speed and endurance.

Sign-ups begin Friday June 19th at 8am
Sign-ups are weekly and will open every Friday at 8am
Classes will run for 5 individual weeks
All classes are 30 minutes and run Monday through Friday
Preschool 1: 10:15am and 10:45am
Preschool 2: 10:15am and 10:45am
Stroke Development: 11:45am and 12:15pm
Stroke Improvement: 12:15pm and 12:45pm
Stroke Refinement: 10:45am and 11:15am
Swim/Skill Proficiency: 10:15am and 11:15am
*Note: The course schedule is subject to change week by week based on demand for each class. Each Wednesday instructors will discuss the potential demand for the coming week and adjust the quantity of each course accordingly.
*Parents are advised to read the prerequisites and place their children into the class that most closely matches their child’s swimming ability. Any necessary adjustments will be made by instructors as necessary on Monday. Every Thursday morning, instructors will then give their recommendation for placement the following week.
*Please note that in order to ensure all participants receive the highest quality instruction possible instructors will have final say on all placements.
